Andrew is a Data Scientist with experience in academic and commercial environments. Working as an experimental Physicist, he refined his skills in Research, Data Analysis, Scientific Computing, Writing, and Presentation. This gave him a solid foundation to branch out into other fields.
He heads a small Data Science consultancy, Exegetic (www.exegetic.biz), based in Durban, South Africa.
These are the things he likes to do (and which he is pretty good at doing):
⇢ transforming raw and messy piles of data into a tidy and workable data set;
⇢ separating signal from noise in large volumes of data;
⇢ teasing subtle scraps of information out of smaller datasets;
⇢ making sense of analytical results within a business context;
⇢ communicating illuminating results in a clear and intuitive way…
⇢ … with attractive visualisations and insightful discussion; and
⇢ doing all of this in plain English, accessible to both Physicists and Grandmothers.
He thrives in a multi-disciplinary environment and greedily adopts novel tools and techniques from a heterogeneous group of colleagues and collaborators. He likes to spend more time on public speaking and finding new ways to present his results.
His blog at http://www.exegetic.biz/blog/ gives a broad reflection of his interests and details some of the side projects that he is currently working on.
